What are we learning? This week we beginning our unit on Physical development of Preschoolers. Why are we learning it? We are learning these things so that we can better function as children's caregivers in the future in both personal/professional sectors. Knowing the physical development of toddlers will help us to better meet preschooler’s physical needs in the future. How will I know I learned it? Tuesday: Activity 1: Go over section 1 of Physical Development of preschoolers by going over each slide of the PowerPoint and doing activities/having discussions to further our learning Activity 2: Begin working on Lacing cards Assignment Homework: Listen to section 2 of physical development of preschoolers Wednesday: Activity 1: Go over section 2 of physical development of toddlers by going over each slide of the PowerPoint and doing activities/having discussions to further our learning Activity 2: Work on Worksheet for ideas to deal with picky eaters. Thursday: Activity 1: Begin working on lacing cards to promote fine motor skill development in preschoolers. Activity 2: Watch section 3 of physical development of toddlers & take notes over it. Activity 3: If time, find a recipe that would appeal to children and meets many of their nutrient requirements (is good for them!) This will be a part of the summative project. Friday: Activity 1: Go over section 3 of physical development of toddlers by going over each slide of the PowerPoint and doing activities/having discussions to further our learning Activity 2: 1st work day for classroom books project.

Tuesday: Begin going over Chapter 13.2 Meeting the social emotional needs of toddlers, students ask questions, engage in group discussions and complete learning activities to better their understanding of the material Wednesday: Continue going over chapter 13.2 Thursday: Finish Chapter 13.2, begin working on summative project for this unit Friday : Workday for Toddler Resume Summative Project; Due Monday What are we learning? We are learning these things so that we can better function as children's caregivers in the future in both personal/professional sectors. How will I know I learned it? You will know you learned it when you pass quizzes and tests on the subject matter. Monday: Final workday for Children’s book Project Tuesday: How to Read to children demonstration, Read Children’s books to the class, Socrative Pretest on social emotional development; Write “Toddler Resume” (under Pre-Lesson Activities) Homework: Listen to section 1 of Social Emotional Powerpoint on paplv.instructure.com & take notes over it. Wednesday: Go over the first half of Section 1 of the Social Emotional Development PowerPoint, go over student questions on each slide from the notes taken on their own. Students will meet briefly in discussion groups for answering specific questions. “Recognizing themselves in adults” & “Toddlers are being socialized” worksheet in discussion groups. Thursday: Go over 2nd half of Section 1 of Social Emotional Development Powerpoint with all relevant discussions & activities to increase student learning. Friday: Finish up Section 1; Work on “Section project” to portray knowledge of what we learned in this section; due Monday. Homework: Section Project & Listening to section 2 of social emotional powerpoint and taking notes on it for class Monday. Child Development II:
What are we learning? This week we are finishing our unit on intellectual development in toddlers ages 1-3. Why are we learning it? We are learning these things so that we can better function as children's caregivers in the future in both personal/professional sectors. How will I know I learned it? You will know you learned it when you pass quizzes and tests on the subject matter. Monday: Day 5 of Intellectual Development of Toddlers. Activity 1: Students will read chapter 12.2 and take notes over main points & what confuses them/what questions they have Activity 2: Student will be assigned a section(s) to become an expert on. Student will complete additional research, ask questions, watch videos, etc to become an expert on their topic. Tuesday: Day 6 of Intellectual Development of toddlers: Activity 1: Students will get together with all of the other experts of their assigned section in chapter 12.2. They will discuss together their understanding of the topic & go over key points they want to communicate with the rest of the class Activity 2: Students will be placed in discussion groups with experts from each section. Each expert will go through & explain the important parts of their section (particularly parts other students wrote down under “what I don’t understand” in their notes on day 1) and answer any student questions related to their section (questions students wrote down on day 1 under their “questions I have”) Activity 3: Discussion groups will raise their hands and ask any questions their experts could not figure out, experts from other sections will respond first and Ms. Jarvis last. Wednesday: Day 7 of Intellectual Development of Toddlers Activity 1: Students will read “10 benefits that highlight the importance of reading to children” in their discussion groups Activity 2: In discussion groups, students will answer the following question based on their understanding of a toddler’s intellectual development “how does reading to a child benefit them intellectually”. Students will record their answers using flipgrid Activity 3: Students will come back together as a class where Ms. Jarvis will explain the characteristics of a good children’s book Activity 4: Students are tasked with finding an example of a children’s book on the internet Students will then review the book based on a good book checklist and explain why it IS or IS NOT a good children’s book. Thursday: Day 8 of Intellectual Development of Toddlers Students will begin their project of developing a good children’s book using Pages on the macs. This will include not only the children book (which will be assessed based on the criteria of a good children’s book) but they will also write an accompanying paper, record an accompanying video, or another chosen option that explains how they created their children’s book while keeping in mind how the intellectual development of toddlers would affect the popularity of the book (i.e .how do toddlers learn & what do they learn, how does your book address these?) Friday: Day 9 of Intellectual Development of Toddlers 2nd Work day of 3 for Children’s book project . |
