What are we learning?
This week we are talking about pregnancy. Why are we learning it? We are learning these things because they will help us be successful adults, learn about the process of getting pregnant and ensure that ourselves or our partner’s have a healthy pregnancy in the future. How will I know I learned it? You will know you learned it when you pass the test on these topics as well as perform well on assigned homework and projects. What are we learning?
This week we are finishing our unit on preparing for parenting, where we will talk about considerations to be made before choosing to become a parent and parenting styles. Why are we learning it? We are learning these things because they will help us be successful adults, learn about the process of deciding to be a parent and help us make the choice of whether or not to become a parent (and when) as well as what parenting style we may choose to utilize. How will I know I learned it? You will know you learned it when you pass the test on these topics as well as perform well on assigned homework and projects. Monday: Activity 1: Unit 4, section 2 Socrative quiz Activity 2: 4 Types of Parenting styles worksheet (partner activity) Activity 3: Scenarios of child misbehaving, students create a skit that shows one of the types of parenting techniques (love withdrawl induction, corporal) in response to the misbehavior. Tuesday: Activity 1: Students perform skits Activity 2: Parenting styles (video) quiz Activity 3: Students Identify what parenting techniques their parents use in a free-write and explain how they know their parents use that style Wednesday: Supernanny clips. Students identify what discipline techniques parents are using in the clips and the parent’s parenting style. This week we are finishing our unit on baby safety and beginning our unit on Parenting. Why are we learning it? We are learning these things because understanding how to prevent children’s accidents in the home as well as child abuse is an important concept for student’s to know for the rest of their lives. How will I know I learned it? You will know you learned it when you do well on the baby safety test and can communicate common safety practices to keep children safe. This week we are learning about protecting the health and safety of children. Why are we learning it? We are learning these things because they will help us be successful caregivers in the future, there are too many accidents in the home that could easily be prevented if students have the knowledge on what is dangerous to infants. How will I know I learned it? You will know you learned it when you are able to complete the baby safety project where you identify areas of concern in the home and how you would make it safe for baby.
