What are we learning? This week we are learning about safety, both in the kitchen and with food. Why are we learning it? We are learning these things because they will help us be successful not only during labs, but also when we cook at home on our own. Kitchen safety is one of the most important things we'll learn this semester as safety is the most important thing when doing any task. How will I know I learned it? You will know you learned it when you pass the kitchen safety test with a satisfactory score. Monday: Set up kitchen, Prepare for the first lab (fill out lab group tasks), Review for test (Vocab Bingo) Demonstrate tomorrow’s lab Tuesday: First Lab (oatmeal munchies); Review how Lab went; Review for test via quiziz if time! What are we learning? This week we are learning about kitchen basics such as how to measure, kitchen tools and their purposes and the math needed to double and halve recipes. Why are we learning it? We are learning these things because they will help us be successful in the kitchen and during labs. If we're able to measure things correctly and use the right tools, we're more likely to be able to successfully make a product. How will I know I learned it? You will know you learned it when you pass the kitchen basics test with a satisfactory score. This week we are learning about food choices, taste, doing 3 tasting experiments and working on our first summative project! Why are we learning it? We are learning these things because they will help us be successful in the course and establish a strong foundation for the rest of the semester. How will I know I learned it? This week we are learning about classroom expectations, safety procedures for foods labs and getting to know our classmates and teacher. Why are we learning it? We are learning these things because they will help us be successful in the classroom, prevent accidents and create a comfortable classroom atmosphere. How will I know I learned it? You will know you learned it when Ms. Jarvis will quiz you over classroom policies and safety procedures and you will be able to answer the questions.
