Opener: Video on whole grain vs refined grains Activity 1: Finish the powerpoint over Nutrition Activity 2: Create a lunch menu for an age group based on nutrition requirements (group project) Homework: 1 Day Food Tracker. Students will use the food tracker all day tomorrow to track their intake of food 10/24: Opener: Quiz “Portion Distortion” On Canvas Activity 1: Present school lunch projects Activity 1: Watch Bill Nye’s “Nutrition” and have students write down 10 facts they learned throughout the course of the video as they’re watching it 10/25: Activity 1: Students will log onto super tracker & enter in their results. Activity 2: Students will save it as a pdf to the computer and turn it in via canvas. Students will then answer all of the questions on the assignment as they turn it in. 10/26: Opener: Facts on “Fast Food Opener” about things you should never order from fast food restaurants. Activity 1: Fast food stations with worksheet Activity 2: Discussion over what we learned. 10/27: Opener: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMR1QmWavDg&feature=youtu.be on portion sizes Activity 1: Students will get into their lab groups and discuss various ways that we as a society can fight obesity (particularly concerning portion sizes and food, not as much exercise), Groups will discuss what they could do right now in the school to fight obesity and help their fellow students make better meal choices. Activity 2: Students will take their ideas and translate them into a poster that could be displayed in the hallways at school to encourage students to eat better. What are we learning?
