Culinary I: What are we learning? This week we are learning about communication and its importance to the workplace. Why are we learning it? We are learning these things because they will help us be successful not only at home when we cook, but also if we choose to make a career out of our culinary skills. Having a mastery of preparing different types of dishes will overall lend to a future fruitful career in the industry. How will we know we learned it? We will know that we learned it when we are able to complete basic kitchen skills with ease during future labs. What are we learning? This week we are finishing our baking unit & beginning our unit on communication Why are we learning it? We are learning these things because they will help us be successful not only at home when we cook, but also if we choose to make a career out of our culinary skills. Having good communication skills will benefit us in any job we choose to pursue in the future. How will we know we learned it? We will know that we learned it when we are able to complete more difficult labs in a quicker time period through the use of good teamwork and communication. Monday: Socrative quiz Chapter 19 1st day of quickbreads project: create cooking show concept & submit grocery order for quickbread lab Tuesday: Film quickbread Tv show during quickbread lab Wednesday: Finish Filming cooking show (pull cooked items out of the oven) Begin editing cooking show together Thursday: Pass out Chapter 19 test review Finish editing cooking show video Friday: Chapter 19 Test Watch Cooking show videos & critique over what can be done better for the next video Take pretest over chapter 4 What are we learning? This week we are continuing our baking unit. Why are we learning it? We are learning these things because they will help us be successful not only at home when we cook, but also if we choose to make a career out of our culinary skills. Having a mastery of preparing different types of dishes will overall lend to a future fruitful career in the industry. How will we know we learned it? We will know that we learned it when we are able to complete basic kitchen skills with ease during future labs. Monday: Cookie Competition project. Develop signature cookies & do pricing worksheet for cookies. Wednesday: Activity 1: 1st lab day for cookie competition; students can experiment and perfect their recipes. Activity 2: Create an advertisement for their cookie (using google draw); take orders from teachers. Thursday: Activity 1: Final Lab day for cookies Activity 2: Package cookies for delivery to teachers on Friday Friday: Activity 1: Deliver cookies to teachers Activity 2: Quickbreads project; each lab group chooses 1 of 3 methods of making quickbreads. Find a recipe for their method (make a grocery order) & create a cooking show around it to demonstrate their quick bread method along with how to make their recipe. What are we learning?
